Frequently asked questions
General questions about the NESS H200 product

What is the NESS H200™?
The NESS H200 is a medical device for the hand and lower arm. Depending on use and need, the NESS H200 supports and/or replaces bodily functions. Five electrodes integrated into the orthosis provide electrical stimulation. The NESS H200 orthosis or treatment may be prescribed to patients with central neurological impairment such as a CVA. After an initial fitting and instruction, patients can continue the treatment independently in the home setting. Patients thus have their rehabilitation ‘in their own hands’.

What is the NESS L300™?
The NESS L300 system is a state-of-the-art, wireless FES system designed to help patients Upper motor neuron (UPN) lesions resulting in foot drop (the inability to lift foot/toes while walking).

What is the lifespan of the NESS H200?
In normal use, the lifespan of the NESS H200 is several years.

How do you ensure the safety / reliability of your product?
NESS products are reliable and safe. This is demonstrated by the fact that NESS:

  • is ISO 9001: ISO 13485 certified
  • has the European CE mark
  • is FDA-cleared for sale in the U.S.A. and holds the UL certificate, which means the NESS H200 meets the highest safety requirements.

Moreover, we ensure that therapists receive training and supervision in practice before they are allowed to work with the NESS H200. In the Netherlands, approximately 2000 patients have already been successfully treated. In the USA, as well as in Israel, a few hundred patients have been treated to date. This positive experience is also confirmed by various publications: adverse effects are negligible. Where adverse effects do occur, they are rare and highly temporary in nature.

What new things can a patient do if he uses the NESS H200?
Patients suffering from hemiparesis are impaired or handicapped to varying degrees. This intensive therapy:

  • helps to reduce spasticity
  • increases range of motion
  • increases the strength and coordination of arm and hand. Simple daily activities, such as getting dressed or hair washing, become easier to carry out thanks to the use of the NESS H200. Depending on the initial situation (before treatment), the H200 enables users  to achieve their personal goals.

The expectation is that prompt training in good time will increase the chance of recovery. Moreover, the intensiveness and duration of treatment (in months and years) also contributes to improved chances of recovery and so greater benefits of the treatment.

When is the NESS H200 used?
Using the NESS H200 from a few days after the CVA ultimately delivers the best results for the patient. Scientific research supports this finding.

Can any patient operate the NESS H200 independently?
When developing the NESS H200, a great deal of attention was paid to translating the technology into ease of operation for the patient and his or her family. After all, part of the concept of the NESS H200 is that the patient should be able to carry out the treatment accurately and independently at home. If necessary, the partner or carer of the patient may be informed by NESS about the treatment and operation of the device.
